A CHEF from Yelverton cycled 100 miles in one day raising almost £800 for charity Hospitality Action.

For the past five years, Rich Henderson has taken part in the Tour de Cuisine but when it was cancelled due to Covid-19, he decided to hold his own event and push himself further than before.

Rich, a former Tavistock College student, took part in the 2015 event on a mountain bike and struggled to complete 60 miles. From this event, Rich really enjoyed cycling and pushed himself each year for the event but always cycled 60 miles.

Rich said: ‘This year, because of Covid-19, I was unable to go for my fourth Tour de Cuisine and push for those 100 miles. As I am still not back at work yet, I decided to challenge myself solo, to do 100 miles and raise money for Hospitality Action.

‘Last year I was lucky to have raised £520 for Hospitality Action. This year I can’t imagine I will raise anywhere near the same amount so I’ve set my goal for £220 and hope that I can achieve that.’

But as of last Friday (August 7), Rich’s fundraising stood at £760.

Hospitality Action is a benevolent foundation that supports people in the Hospitality Industry who may be going through tough times, personal trauma, money, struggling with mental health and addiction.
