Tamar Evening League
Whitchurch v Lifton
IN the same week that Whitchurch Wayfarers evening league A side confirmed themselves as B division league champions, they also carried off the Colin Kirby knockout cup.
In a close match with Lifton, played at Calstock, Whitchurch scored 141 for three in their 20 overs.
Ewan Smith top scored with 72 not out with strong support from Josh Meadows who made a quick fire 39. Best bowling for Lifton came from Martin Vanstone with two for 13 off his five overs.
In reply Lifton fell eight runs short finishing on 134 for three.
Martin Vanstone top scored with 83 only holding out off the last ball of the match. Lifton were always up with the run rate with M Kneebone (28) and Vanstone sharing a potential match winning partnership.
This wasn't to be as Whitchurch stemmed the flow of runs with tighter bowling and sharper fielding, especially in the final six overs.
Darren Sambells had two for 25 off his five overs with great support from skipper Dean Elliott (1-24) and Josh Meadows (0-27).
