TAVISTOCK Wheelers members enjoyed great success at the Dartmoor Classic Sportive on Sunday, which attracted more than 2,500 riders.

The Dartmoor Classic is a non-commercial Cyclosportive, organised by the Mid-Devon Cycling Club and run in association with Specialized.

In the 65 mile event, Wheelers, Dee Richards, Mark Coleman, Tim Woodward and Geoff Whitlow won gold medals by beating the 4 hours 30 minutes standard. Dee Richard's time of 4 hours 14 minutes was particularly remarkable after suffering a tyre problem early in the race. Gary Clements got silver

In the 105 mile event, the hot conditions on Dartmoor took their toll, with many experienced riders struggling to finish. Tavistock Wheelers had five silver medallists,

Martin Legg, Robin Brew and Richard Brown, Rod Stewart, John Meek, together with Mike Deacon, bronze medallist

These were the best ever results for Tavistock Wheelers, which is the result of growing numbers joining their Sunday morning rides.
