PEOPLE who took part in a recent stone-carrying walk were surprised to be joined by African music members ? The Simba Band. The band were recently involved in the Tavrica event at the Wharf where they offered a special Zimbabwean weekend of music and dance in aid of One World Foundation Africa. The band took part in the walk led by Tavistock mayor Caroline Keane last Sunday and, in the ancient tradition, helped to carry a stone. This walk was the sixth in the series of eight walks and workshops taking place in the circle of communities around Merrivale. The band joined the stonecarrying walkers, crossing Whitchurch Down to the ancient cross above Greenlands, drumming and mrimba playing to Tavistock Parish Rooms where storytelling, drumming and a dance workshop took place. The next stone-carrying walk leaves Tavistock Parish Rooms on Sunday, August 20 at 2pm.
