A LARGE group of keen walkers visited the Tavistock area centre of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team.

Horrabridge Walk and Talk group has been fundraising for the charity, and raised £283 from a bake sale recently.  They were shown around the centre by team members Alice Inman, Eddie Southgate and Neil Richards, who is also a Walk and Talk leader.

The group saw slides of the range of ways in which the DRG works to search for and rescue others in hazardous situations around Western Dartmoor.

DRG members train to a very high standard. The team may also join other Search and Rescue Teams if necessary. The team contains members from many walks of life, all of whom share a love of Dartmoor.

The walkers toured the centre looking at the radio equipment, medical stores, swift water recovery gear and the team's two vehicles with their wide array of equipment.  At the time of the visit the team was preparing to provide support for youngsters taking part in the Ten Tors challenge..

The walk and talkers were shown a practice defibrillator and some tried resuscitation on the team's dummy. The team is looking to raise funds to buy an additional defibrillator at a cost of around £1,200.

Tavistock DSRT relies heavily on its own fundraising through collecting boxes, events such as sales, pub quizzes etc.

Horrabridge Walk and Talk arranges weekly walks of one hour on a Tuesday and fortnightly two-hour walks on a Wednesday.
