OKEHAMPTON?S Dartmoor Railway is the ideal venue for a summer charity walk and barbecue fundraiser this Sunday.

The Myasthenia Gravis Association is holding the event in a bid to raise much needed funds towards building a network of support for sufferers throughout Devon.

Myasthenia Gravis is a rare and debilitating illness which, if not properly controlled, can be fatal.

It affects people of all ages and research has shown it could be hereditary.

There are around 250 people across Devon suffering from the disease, and the Myasthenia Gravis Association works to promote both awareness of their needs and research into causes.

The Dartmoor Railway day out will involve a train ride followed by a walk of either two and a half or six miles, complemented by a barbecue at the end.

The shorter walk is suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and bicycles and everyone is welcome.

Tickets cost £5 for children, £8 for adults or £25 for the whole family and they can be obtained directly from Okehampton Station by calling 01837 55637.

Regular meetings of the association?s Devon branch are now held in Exmouth, Torquay, Barnstaple and Plymouth which sufferers and carers are welcome to attend. For more information contact 01332 290219.
