Okehampton Columbines Ladies 3 Dartmouth Ladies 2 OKEHAMPTON were keen to get back on winning form and felt buoyed up when Jo Moppett scored the first goal of the match with a lovely and well angled smack. Dartmouth came back with determined play, making good use of through passes. Despite able defending by backs Jenny Humphrey, Sandy Douglas and Abi Colton, Dartmouth equalised. As half-time approached, captain Alex Collins seized an opportunity offered by the long corner taken by Viv Weatherington. Alex leapt forward with the ball, lost her marker and used great presence of mind and control to take the ball through to score. Alex was voted player of the match by Dartmouth, a well deserved accolade. Dartmouth kept up the pressure and several saves were required of goalie Sophie Whiteley. One was particularly difficult, being mid-air on the left but Sophie kept them all out. Okehampton got their third with some good passing around the circle among forwards Hannah Whiteley, Jo Moppett, Jo Drake and Viv Weatherington. Viv gave the final tap to angle it past the wrong footed goalie to make the score 3- 1. Dartmouth did not let up their attack. A short corner was taken around the circle and slipped past several defenders for 3-2. Determined to keep their lead, Okehampton piled on the pressure and in the last five minutes had several short corners and Dartmouth were desperate to keep the ball out. l This week Okehampton are home to Mannamead II with a 2.30pm start.
