THROUGHOUT West Devon, residents gathered to pay their respects to those who have lost their lives in conflict, observing the traditional silence at 11am.

Around 100 parishioners from the Lewdown and Milton Abbot benefices gathered at the war memorial in Lewdown for the Act of Remembrance, led by the Rev Greg Stanton.

The words 'For the Fallen' were read by Dr Ron Wawman, and the 'Kohima Epitaph' by Alan Payne.

The names of the 42 parishioners from the Lewdown and Milton Abbot benefices who lost their lives in the wars were read out by Dr Wawman, as a cross was laid for each by Tim Nash and William Yeo.

The Last Post was played by Ben Taylor, and wreaths were laid by Christopher Hill, Lewdown Grouped Parish Council; Iris Griffiths Marystowe Royal British Legion; Mary Rolfe, of the area churches, Beck Jones and Brownies on behalf of the local Guides and Brownies group.

A service of remembrance in the Victory Hall was led by Mr Stanton. Organist was Joyce Vanstone.

Collections raised more than £200 for the Royal British Legion.
