THE ladies of Lamerton WI are working away in preparation for the revival of the village's produce and craft show, which is being resurrected after 50 years.
The first Lamerton Show took place in 1934 and attracted 387 entries. With more than 60 classes it is hoped that this figure will be exceeded this year. The show ceased in 1961.
Lamerton WI president Angela Minshull said: 'Following the formation of Lamerton Garden Club two years ago and the very successful Lamerton Allotment Association last year, the time seemed right to re-launch the show. This, coupled with our ladies' very capable cooking skills should make the basis of an excellent show.'
Along with the traditional classes for flowers, fruit and vegetables there will be a varied section for art and craft, including photography, sewing, knitting and handicrafts. There are also many classes for children in both the produce and craft sections.
Lamerton Parish Council and County Councillor Debo Sellis have sponsored the event and local businesses and individuals have provided many cups and shields for the prize winners.
The show will be opened by Cllr Sellis on Saturday August 13, at 2pm at Lamerton Village Hall. Schedules are available at Carr's Garage, Lamerton.
