BERE Alston is holding a celebration day on Wednesday April 19 to mark the result of a number of successful initiatives in the village over the last few years. The community event, which is being co-ordinated by WPC Angie Frost, the West Devon Crime Prevention Officer, will be staged at Bere Alston Primary School and will involve a range of organisations across West Devon. The occasion is being used to present a special cheque to the village. West Devon Homes Tenants? panel is presenting £800 to Bere Alston?s young people to go towards a BMX dirt track in the area. WPC Frost said a multi agency team had been working closely with the communities of West Devon, including Bere Alston, for a number of years and this event was an ideal way to celebrate the many successes of this particular village partnership. ?This is a day to celebrate all that?s good about Bere Alston. ?There have been some challenges in the past in the village, but so many people have worked incredibly hard to turn these into major successes. ?The people of Bere Alston should be proud of what they have achieved, together with a number of agencies, who have made all this happen. ?Bere Alston is a good place to be ? and we want to celebrate that!? A welcome addition at this event will be an information stand for the Devonwide Concessionary Travel Scheme for the over 60s and the disabled. Among the organisations taking part on the day are the Bere Alston Parish Council Regeneration Project; West Devon Borough Council?s new customer services team; the borough council?s waste and recycling service; the council?s sports development and arts services; Bere Alston Fire Service; Police traffic mini-motos and motorcycle safety team; Bere Alston Bownies, West Devon Homes; Warm Up West Devon; The Bere Alston Trekkers; Citizens Advice Bureaux; WestDen Sustainable Food and the Getting There Project. WPC Frost would also like to thank the following shops who have either donated a raffle prize or are attending the event. They are Morwellham Quay, Tavistock Co-op, Let?s Get Crafty, Randall?s Florist, Perfect and Elegant, Georgina Pet Supplies, Sheila?s Clothing and Long Ash Garden Centre. There?s a free raffle on the day along with free goody bags. The event starts at noon and finishes at 4pm.
