TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling club began their week of four matches with the news that on Sunday, the team of George Blackburn, Shirley Blackburn, Norman Paramor and Marlen Paramor won the Callington Bowling Club Open Tournament. Tavistock Club?s first game of the week was Monday?s mixed triples at Okehampton which saw Tavistock defeated 100-73 after they won only one of the five rinks played. Tavistock skip Vic Stacey and his squad of Wallace Northey and Wendy Bloomer ended their match on a high, after they won ten of the last twelve ends to achieve an 18-11 victory. Tavistock?s losing skips were John Smith (19-23), Ernie Piper (14-26), Malcolm Bloomer (13-21) and Norman Paramor (9-20). Tuesday saw the ladies? section at home to Plymstock Bees in a two rink league fixture which ended with each side having won one rink, but Plymstock Bees won the match 46-37 thanks to a good 24-14 win on one rink. Tavistock skip Sue Silcox and her crew were the Tavistock winning rink, with a one-shot (23-22) victory. Wednesday saw a Tavistock mixed squad face Torpoint for a six mixed triples contest. The Tavistock team returned home having won the match 104-84 after winning four of the six rinks. Skips results were: Vic Stacey 15-12, Marlene Paramor 34-6, Ernie Piper 17-13, Norman Paramor 17-13, Colin Trermaine 7-24 and Sue Silcox 15-16. Thursday saw the visit by Topsham Bowling Club for a five rink mixed match which ended as a 109-58 victory for the Tavistock players after they won four of the five rinks. Skip Vic Stacey and his squad of Freda Isaac, Frank Welch and Wallace Northey achieved a 30-8 victory, while skip Ernie Piper led his crew of Shirley Blackburn, Barry Chappell and Gordon Northey to a 24-9 win. Skip Betty Browse and team of Charlie Cummings, Der Saunders and Clifford Hicks won 23-10 and skip Norman Paramor and team of Brian Ellicott, Catriona Meek and Dorice Hicks won 17-15. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his squad lost 15-16.
