Yelverton Seconds v
Tavistock Seconds
YELVERTON won the toss and asked Tavistock to bat on a damp wicket at the Ring. Tight bowling by Roe and Heath meant runs were hard to come by for Tavistock's opening pair, but the introduction of Leonard broke the opening partnership as Tavistock's skipper Rich was well caught by a diving Geoff Brain at first slip.
Rich's dismissal was quickly followed by the dismissal of Terry and Statton before the fourth wicket pair of Milligan and Anderson steadied the innings with a partnership of 18.
However, once they were separated with the score on 54 the Tavistock middle order and tail-end were mopped up by Leonard (6-23) and Treweeks (3-16) and the innings closed on 77.
With the unused overs going to Yelverton the winning equation was 78 runs off 58 overs.
Yelverton's reply started badly with vice-captain Degg holing out to deep midwicket off R Rich's first delivery. More tight bowling by the Tavistock pair of Ross and Rich meant victory would not be a formality, but with 50-plus overs to get the runs, Yelverton's Brain and Pring got their heads down and ground out a match-winning 57-run partnership for the second wicket before Pring was lbw to Simpson.
Brain quickly followed, run out after a mix-up with Gould, and it was left to Gould to score the remaining 6 runs for victory.
This victory was important for Yelverton and brought them level on points with Tavistock.
