TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club began their week of five matches with a men?s evening League match away to Yealmpton. The men returned home having lost the game (75-86) after having won on only two of the four rinks played. Skip Vic Stacey led his crew of Wallace Northey, Barry Chappell and Mike Silcox to an 18-15 victory and skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Mike Felles, Ernie Piper and David Perry, won 24-21. Skip Mike Allen and his crew lost 17-24 while skip Clive Jago saw his squad lose 16-26. Thursday saw a mixed team travel to face Chagford and return home having won the match 78-70 despite losing on three of the four rinks played. Skip Mike Allen and his team of Wallace Northey, Barry Chappell and Shirley Blackburn notched up a 34-9 victory which more than made up for the defeats on the other three rinks. Losing skips were Ernie Piper (16-17), Bill Ashe (11-24),and Vic Stacey (17-20). Teignmouth were Tavistock?s opponents on Saturday for a mixed home match that Tavistock won 139-97, after each team won three of the six rinks played. Tavistock?s winning rinks: Skip Barry Chappell and his crew of Bill Ashe, Mike Felles and Marlene Paramor (33-9); skip Mike Allen and his team of Norman Paramor, John Timmins, and Shirley Blackburn (35-5); skip Clive Jago and his team of Hazell Lovell, Lauri Smith and Derek Bradford(27-17). Losing skips results were: Vic Stacey (15-18), Malcolm Bloomer (16-25) and Ernie Piper(13-23). The ladies? section faced Oreston on Tuesday in an away match which ended in a 38-35 win for the Tavistock travellers after skip Val Southern led her rink to a 23-15 victory although Skip Hazel Lovell saw her rink lose 15-20.
