SPREYTON cricket team welcomed Exeter Thirds for a friendly 40-overs match, captained by Peter Hill. The home side set a relatively easy target of 96 runs.
The visitors came out after tea, fully confident. It was, however, not quite how it went. It was left to the tail-enders from Exeter to hang in there for a draw. The most successful home batsmen were Chris Filor, Steve Smith and Bob Unsworth. Bowlers making most impact were Steve Smith, Horst Tomkins and Cleave Collins.
Charlie Hancock, aged ten, batted with Paul Turner who is well over six feet in height. But Charlie had all the style, and a heart like a lion.
