AN exhibition celebrating the end of a two-year project that provided opportunities for the community of Calstock to delve deep into their history and heritage, begins its tour in the Tamar Valley on January 8.
Uncovering the Past will showcase and highlight the wealth of events and training that were made available to local people, thanks to a grant of £35,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), awarded to the Calstock Parish Heritage Project in October 2010.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to learn more about the community's experience and the full stories behind what was uncovered during the project, including results from the 2011 Roman fort excavation.
Samantha Barnes, project officer for the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), said: 'Calstock parish has a rich and deep history, and the project has allowed people to get involved and gain skills to help look after this heritage.'
The exhibition will provide the opportunity to join in with hands-on activities, chat to some of the volunteers, and find out how you can learn more local heritage.
The exhibition continues until Thursday, January 31 at the Tamar Valley Centre, Drakewalls, between 11am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.
The exhibition will tour throughout 2013. If you are interested in hosting all, or part, of the exhibition, the project team would be pleased to hear from you. Contact 01822 835032 or email: [email protected]">[email protected]
