Tavistock Ladies 7
Plymouth University 1
THIS last game of the season for Tavistock saw them in good spirits and able to field a full eleven. Lisa Curtis was welcomed back plus their old keeper of last season standing in for an absent Sara Blowey.
Tavistock dominated with excellent running on both wings by Donna Burch and Kirsty Evans and for the first 20 minutes the game was in the University half.
A strong midfield of McGowan, Sivyer and Evans made play difficult for the university side. Candy Capeling made a strong clearance and with McGowan flicking the ball on to Burch set up Evans for her first goal. Confidence grew on both sides and Plymouth started to put some good moves together to counter attack but Rachel Galvin, Kerry Gliddon and Capeling under the strong influence of Aileen Ismail cleared up most of the breaks.
Good passing by the midfield and a run by Galvin set up Burch to cross a dead accurate ball for Evans to finish. Shortly after, Evans set up Curtis for a well taken goal.
The second half saw Tavistock defending and concede a number of corners. A sweeping ball came off the head of a defender, hit the keeper's hand and an own goal was conceded.
Tavistock fought on and Evans went on to score two more thus making her total this season 35.
Helen Lea came on and a slide rule pass by McGowan saw her first time shot thunder in to the net. Curtis finished the tally and despite Plymouth never giving up the score stood.
Ladies of match: Donna Burch and Aileen Ismail.
Tavistock Ladies have had a wonderful season but have to await a result to see if they have finished top or runners-up.
Thanks were expressed to sponsors Colin Scoble and Harry Galway and Kath at Langsford Park.
