THE Tavistock section of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team had a busy day and night on Sunday, April 7, after being called out twice. The first was to assist South Western Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to rescue an injured mountain biker from the moor near Sourton. The casualty was efficiently take off the moor using HART's off-road vehicle with team members on hand to assist as needed. The second callout was to search for a missing Duke of Edinburgh group who, having failed to rendezvous with their leaders at a pre-arranged tor, had been reported missing to the police. Members of Tavistock and Plymouth sections were involved in a search covering an area from Princetown to the southern part of the moor. Heavy rain and poor visibility made the search very difficult. The DofE group were unaware of the search and had sheltered in a church located off the moor and were 'found' the next morning when they emerged and made contact with leaders. Dartmoor Search and rescue Team (Tavistock) consists entirely of volunteer members and relies on their fundraising efforts to remain operational. The team is currently recruiting new members to increase its numbers. It is also always grateful for fundraising contributions.
