TELEVISION presenter Kirstie Allsopp made an appearance at a Tavistock business woman's shop recently, to film an episode of Channel 4's programme Homemade Home.

The episode features Jenny Elesmore who owns two shops in Tavistock — Odds and Suds and Odds and Buds, although the footage features her Odds and Suds shop in Ashburton.

Jenny was contacted by IWC Media, the production company commissioned by Channel Four, back in September.

The company wanted to make an episode of Kirstie's Homemade Home featuring the Ashburton shop for its second series.

The programme sees Kirstie on a mission to transform a dilapidated country cottage in Devon into the ultimate 'homemade' home, with everything either made in the UK, or made by her.

She wants to prove that it is possible to get 'our hands on the good stuff', without having to import products from overseas.

Each week, Kirstie renovates a room and creates a unique and personal dream interior.

Jenny said: 'I was so very flattered when I heard the news we would be in the programme. It was really nice to be asked to be a part of it.

'Kirstie spent four hours with us and the crew seven hours. Kirstie made three batches of soap, and as soap needs four to six weeks to cure, we went to her house recently to cut it into shapes and decorate the pieces for her. The whole thing was really good fun.'

Sara Venner, who works for Jenny, said: 'It was great to meet the filming team and despite the scary thought of being on TV, I was filled with excitement.

'We just had to wait to see if we would fit in.'

After being contacted on September 10, they then were called on September 18 and heard that Jenny's shop was chosen.

It was then all systems go, as Jenny and the staff had to decorate the shop to appear as though it was Christmas time.

After a week of hard work and nail biting, filming started at 7.30am on Monday, September 28.

Sara added: 'Kirstie was really lovely to work with, very professional and fun too.

'We didn't have too many takes and all ran smoothly. We finally wrapped up 12 hours later.'

The programme should be shown on Channel 4 on December 9 at 8pm.
