THE Robin Fenner Memorial Match took place at the Ring between Tavistock CC and a West Devon XI to commemorate this larger-than-life man who was involved in so much of the life of Tavistock. Robin was a vice president of Tavistock CC for many years and was instrumental in their recent £3,500 grant from the Lords Taverners for the development of nets for use of the Colts. Tavistock skipper Stuart Munday lost the toss and was asked to field. It was a slow start with some fine bowling from Gliddon, Munday and Baker until Plymouth skipper David Burke hit a quickfire 20. David Downham grabbed two quick wickets. Plymouth wicket keeper Callum notched 25, until Stuart Down and Andy Gauler mopped up the tail, leaving a total of 107. Tavistock started well with Cashell and Cleave putting on 20 for the first wicket. McGahey scored well until deciding he needed to be Lynford Christie to get a fourth run and failing badly. Meanwhile David Downham was putting together a score of 40. The last two overs saw Tavistock needing 11 to win and three off three balls resulted in the winning runs coming with one ball to spare. Robin?s widow, Sheila, then presented the beautiful memorial trophy to Tavistock captain Stuart Munday. Man of the match adjudicator Andrew Rich then made his award to a well deserving David Downham.
