MORE than £500 has been raised for this year's poppy appeal at Callington Community College.

Year 13 pupils Sarah Parkes and Bethany Richards organised the appeal after attending a college trip to Belgium earlier this year to visit the battlefields and cemeteries of the first world war and felt inspired to do something special for Remembrance Day.

Starting on November 6 they sold poppies to all the students and teachers. They customised some sparkly poppies which they made to try and encourage younger students to engage in the appeal.

They also organised a poppy-themed cake sale which added to the funds already raised for the Royal British Legion. The girls were supported by Callington's local Tesco store which donated ingredients to help with the cake sale.
