THE build-up to ChagWord, the first ever literary festival in Chagford, continues to gather pace with the latest run-up event in January.
The inaugural ChagWord festival will run from Friday, March 15 to Sunday, March 17, with the festival programme under continuing development. Among authors already booked to appear are Paula Byrne, Miriam Darlington, Jonathan Dimbleby, Chris Mullin and Malcolm Pryce.
The weekend will include a variety of workshops and other events, including a performance by LiTTLe MACHiNe, setting poetry to music. There will also be opportunities for community participation for all age groups.
On Saturday, January 19, Rob Hopkins of the Transition Network will show the film In Transition 2.0, and discuss the work of the Transition Network with Ed Hamer, of Chagfood.
The Transition Network promotes the creation of projects in areas of food, transport, energy, education and other areas as small-scale local responses to the global challenges of climate change. The approach also aims to galvanise communities through these projects.
The film looks at this approach to lowering CO2 emissions, aiming to bring humour and optimism to the subject of global climate change.
Rob is the author of The Transition Handbook: From oil dependence to local resilience, which has been published in a number of languages, and 2011 saw the publication of his second book, The Transition Companion: Making your community more resilient in uncertain times.
The event starts at 7.30pm in the Jubilee Hall in Chagford. Tickets are available from Sally's Newsagents, or online at http://www.chagword.com">www.chagword.com
