St Stephens versus Tavistock

TAVISTOCK lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Tavistock did not get off to the best of starts as they lost both their opening batsmen in the first five overs. Sam Willetts and Kieran Alford steadied the ship for Tavistock before Willetts departed after being dismissed LBW. This brought Nick Coe to the crease and he and Alford continued to add runs to Tavistock scoreboard. Alford continued to attack St Stephens and was finally out after being well caught on the boundary for 29. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals for Tavistock and only a quick fire 15 from David Milligan and a couple of good scoring overs from the attacking Nick Coe saw Tavistock reach a total of 138 for 8 with Coe finishing on 32 not out.

Tavistock opened the bowling with Willets and Adam Chidzoy and both bowled tight to the stumps conceding minimal runs. Chidzoy made the breakthrough when he dismissed the opening batsmen in the twelfth over of the game. Chidzoy took a further three wickets and aided by sharp fielding from Kieran Alford soon had St Stephens five wickets down.

Anthony Derbyshire delivered a good spell of bowling taking two wickets after two good catches from Coe and Bennett.

St Stephens captain Simon Court batted sensibly and aided by Simon Yeo started to push his team towards the total they required. Kieran Alford dismissed the dangerous Court for 36 after Milligan to a good catch.

With the home side on the back foot Yeo continued to bat sensibly and saw his team over the winning line with six overs to spare. St Stephens won by two wickets.

Launceston versus Tavistock

Launceston won the toss and elected to bat first. Johnny Smith and Adam Chidzoy opened the bowling for Tavistock, both bowled well. Chidzoy made the breakthrough in the tenth over, dismissing Hake LBW and Smith quickly followed by taking two quick wickets aided by sharp fielding from Kieran Alford and Anthony Derbyshire.

Will Smith was introduced into the attack and he also picked up two wickets after Alford and Derbyshire took two good catches. Pete Jarman also picked up a wicket and Launceston ended their innings on 146 for 6 after 40 overs.

Tavistock did not get off to the greatest of starts losing three of their four batsmen in the opening eight overs of their innings.

Anthony Derbyshire continued to bat sensibly and managed to keep Tavistock on course.

With Tavistock losing wickets at regular intervals Derbyshire started to attack the Launceston bowlers hitting boundaries whenever possible and got to his 50 in good time. Derbyshire was eventually dismissed for a superb 62 after being well caught on the boundary.

Further wickets lost meant that Tavistock just came up short and lost the game by 15 runs.
