Tavistock CC seconds  v South Devon seconds   

AFTER losing the toss on a hot sunny day Tavistock found themselves in the field.

The ever improving Sam Willetts led the attack and he soon found success when opener Heart had one lift on him which hit the shoulder of the bat and ballooned to debutant Mark Gibbs for his first contribution for the club.

Willetts took his second wicket of the day when Jamie Stephens took a good catch at mid on.

South Devon progressed to 49 when skipper John McGahey set a trap for opener Allen, who duly fell when Anderson took a smart diving catch at short mid-wicket to dismiss him.

Kaitiff and Jamie Stephens were miserly with the runs and Tavistock were on top, Murphy and Mathews soon followed and South Devon were 111-6.

Parsons and Duke pushed the score on but Parsons was caught by Josh Stephens off Kaitiff, Shepherd also tried to smash the ball but he was well caught by McGahey. Duke hit a late 18 as South Devon ended on 154-8.

Tavistock got of  to a bad start at 15-2, Webber took the score to 35 before he was yorked by Tarek.

Phil Stephens and Mcgahey set about the recovery and put 30 before McGahey holed out to Extra cover, Kaitiff was also yorked and Tavistock were in trouble.

Phil Stephens was at his imperious best dispatching all the bowlers to all parts of the ground and ably assisted by his youngest son Jamie put Tavistock back on track before Jamie fell the same way as his captain.

Barry Milligan joined Stephens but Milligan went lbw for 11 and Phil Stephens soon followed when he was run out for a fine 64.

With the last pair at the wicket Tavistock still needed 10 to win.

Willets stepped up to the mark and bowler Tarek bowled saw the ball fly back over his head twice both for four. With just two need to win Willets was bowled and Tavistock had lost a thriller  by one run

Tavistock 7 points and South Devon 18pts.
