I HOPE that, through your newspaper, you will give me the opportunity to thank all those who helped to make the Fiesta of Santo Niño such a successful event. Sunday week was a wonderful occasion and there were so many people who helped us that I am in danger of leaving someone out.

The police and Devon Highways helped with the planning, then closed and policed the traffic to allow the procession to take place.

The town council advised us and the mayor supported the event with her presence. The clergy and members of Churches Together in Tavistock gave their support and joined us in the procession and the church.

Finally, but not least, to the members of the public who came to watch the procession and encourage the walkers.

This was the first time that the Filipino community had had the opportunity to come together and celebrate something from their culture.

The town of Tavistock can be truly proud to have been the first in the West Country to host this event and, as information about it circulates around the world on the internet, I think its reputation will grow.

My thanks to all those who made this occasion possible and so successful.
