PRIORITY projects to help regenerate Okehampton will be discussed next week at a public meeting.

Representatives of clubs, societies, businesses and the general public are invited by the Okehampton Locality Group to a presentation and discussion of recent progress with the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative (MCTi).

Okehampton Area MCTi has requested government PhaseTwo funding for the next 12 months work.

The meeting will be an opportunity to meet members of the steering group and discuss the Okehampton Locality Group?s ?Foundation Projects?, intended to boost community participation in the regeneration of the town.

These projects are: town design statement, special educational needs support group, youth space, and local wireless (internet) network.

There will also be an opportunity to discuss possible future projects such as development of the Old Mill site.

The meeting takes place at 7pm in the Ockment Centre on Tuesday, July 1.

l STUDENTS from Okehampton College will get the chance to be budding town planners next week as part of a project to stimulate new ideas for the development of the Old Mill site.

Lower sixth-form students from the college have been asked to design a community facility to occupy the currently derelict site.

Students will spend next Wednesday and Thursday planning and presenting their ideas for the site.

The students will be given some guidance from architect Alan van der Steen and Mike Saunby of Okehampton MCTi.
