IN response to the letter of 'Anon' (March 30) I feel it incumbent on me, as chairman of the properties committee of Tavistock Town Council, to put the record straight.
It was this council, after discussion with the skateboarders on a very wet afternoon in the Meadows some ten years ago, who sourced and provided a Skateboard ramp for their use. The ramp was, it would appear, accidentally burnt down last year but has been rebuilt by a local company (Steeltech) with funds raised by Taviskate.
The town council has had meetings, which I chaired, with members of Tavistock and the BMX Club and the result has been that the skateboard ramp is now up and running in Benson's Meadow with safety surfaces on both sides. In addition, an area adjacent to the ramp has been designated for a skateboard park and will be constructed when the group can finance it. Furthermore, we have identified a site within the town boundaries for a BMX track and this is likely to be constructed in the very near future.
I hope that this letter will assure the lady or gentleman in question that the town council has the needs of the younger generation firmly in its sights.
Cllr K J Sanders
