A SUPERB fundraising effort from Tavistock traders and customers has seen more than £1,000 raised for the Boscastle Flood Relief Fund.

The town?s pannier market raised £550 from donation boxes which have constantly been filled ? and hardware store Lawsons auctioned two sets of knives at the recent Flavour Fest to raise a further £520.

Market reeve Eddie Carruthers said: ?We were really pleased to see how generously people gave to the fund ? it has taken us ages to count all the loose change and it?s really mounted up!?

The money will go directly to those affected by last month?s floods in the beleaguered North Cornwall village ? where the clear-up operation is still very much underway.

Lawson?s managing director Liz Lawson said: ?We feel very strongly about supporting our local economy and surrounding environment - it?s the least we could do.?

The funds will be added to a further donation from the Tavistock branch of Mackays which was sent to Boscastle last month.
