TAVISTOCK Girls? Football Club rounded off their most successful season yet when the U11s side scooped the Ocean League championship in a thrilling play-off against Efford.
Their 2-1 victory at the Kimberley Stadium in Saltash means they will take the championship cup at a major presentation night at Plymouth Pavilions on June 19. They will be joined by the U13s team, who will lift the runners-up trophy for the Vivid A League, having been pipped to the championship by just one point from last year?s winners Activate.
Sue Hammond, football club manager, said she was thrilled with the girls? success: ?The effort they have put in, through a very long season, has been fantastic. For a small market town to beat top Plymouth teams like this is brilliant, everyone should be proud of them.?
Sue paid tribute to every player in the football club?s teams at U11, U13 and U15 level and said the commitment and teamwork shown by all the girls did them credit.
The players take to the pitch again this weekend, when they take part in a big tournament while on tour at Newquay.
