THE popular annual cycling challenge Tour de Moor returns on Sunday, September 30 with options for all abilities.
With the event including a family-friendly 11km route along Drake’s Trail, suitable for anyone with a bike, it’s a great opportunity for families to enjoy time together in beautiful Dartmoor while raising vital funds for St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth.
This gentle route along tarmac paths includes a quiz for all the ‘mini moorers’ taking part, plus selfie stops, a visit from a famous face and a hot chocolate stop.
In addition to the 11km option and the intermediate 23km route, Tour de Moor offers a challenge for adrenalin seekers.
For the bravest, there is the 52km route where they can put their biking skills to the ultimate test, tackling the hills up to Princetown.
Starting and finishing at Harrowbeer Airfield near Yelverton from 8.30am, participants will be challenging themselves in one of the country’s most stunning and rugged landscapes.
Head of fundraising at St Luke’s Penny Hannah said: ‘Tour de Moor is a fantastic day. With lots of muddy fun and with three routes to choose from, it’s perfect for both families and the more experienced cyclists who really want to push themselves.
‘It’s such a great way to get on your bike and help us provide vital care and support to people and their families across the local area, making every hill worth that extra effort.’
Karl Welburn, director of Print Copy Scan, the sponsors of the event, said: ‘The care St Luke’s provides touches so many lives, but we mustn’t take it for granted.
‘As the only specialist end of life care provider in this area, they need continued support and we’re proud to sponsor Tour de Moor again this year. ’
