Merit league

Tavistock seconds 15

Tiverton seconds 30

TAVISTOCK met a very well organised and impressive Tiverton side in an entertaining league game at Sandy Park.

The visitors scored converted tries right at the end of each half and that, more or less, was the difference between the sides on the day.

Tavistock went straight on to the offensive from the kick-off and Tiverton conceded a penalty after only two minutes. Credicott duly kicked the points. Tavistock then conceded a penalty themselves and the visitors converted it.

Midway through the half, the Tavistock pack won a good scrum on the Tiverton 22 metre line and scrumhalf Lee Greatrex made a trademark break and sliced through the Tiverton defence for a fine individual try. Credicott converted.

The visitors replied with a penalty after 30 minutes and with the last move of the first half Tiverton breached the home defence for a converted try and a half-time lead of 13-10.

With the Tavistock lineout not functioning as well as in recent games, Tiverton had the majority of possession in the second half and scored  a deserved try midway through the half. Tavistock plugged away and after some good phases from the forwards, flanker Jamie Tripconey finished off a good attack with an unconverted try. At 15-23, Tavistock were back, but despite good runs from wingers Ben Palmer and Ben Neale, could not break down the Tiverton defence. With the last move of the match, the visitors took advantage of some missed tackles, to score a converted try for a deserved win.

Tavistock's replacement lock, Mark Robson showed up well in his first game.

n This week Tavistock seconds are away to Saltash, kick-off 3pm.
