YOUR readers should be made aware that now is the time to be looking ahead because in six months' time all will be complaining madly about the huge rise in the council tax.
I will make a prediction that it will rise by at least 10% and when it is too late, petitions will be signed and angry letters written to newspapers all over the country.
I say 10% because with the rise in council workers' pay, no matter how well deserved, this will cost an increase of about £80 per household.
With all the other things that the government will expect the councils to provide, 10% could well be an underestimate.
I would urge them not to think that this is inevitable and that there is nothing that can be done.
All over the country there are groups formed and forming to fight this continuous drain on the incomes of people with limited money coming in.
By all getting together we can make a loud enough noise to bring some sense into the way local government is financed.
There is probably a group in the vicinity of most of your readers and a little effort will find it. Michael Thompson and Link-Age, Brixham, most of whom are not yet pensioners, are a fine example.
Devon Pensioners' Action Forum and the Devon and Cornwall Pensioners' Convention are in the forefront of campaigning on behalf of all persons 50 and over and if anyone wishes for more information, will they please get in touch with me.
We can also give you the reality of what the much vaunted Government Pension Credit will mean to most households.
