YELVERTON'S Tim McSherry should have won the opening DCPGA winter medal series after shooting two under par 67 at Exeter, but had the misfortune of discovering that he had 15 clubs in his bag.
This resulted in a four-stroke penalty as he did not realise his mistake until after his round.
The event attracted 34 professionals from around Devon and shows the strength and popularity of the DCPGA. The first event of the series was sponsored by Mark Dixie of Queen Street Carpets and Furnishings in Alphington Road, Exeter and produced some excellent golf on a blustery day.
Joint winners of the event were Stuart Disney of Torquay, Barry Austin of Teign Valley and Duncan Giblett of East Devon with a score of 68.
They were closely followed by Neil Holman of Churston and Ross Troake of Staddon Heights with level par 69.
