BUSINESSES from West Devon got together recently, to swap resources and expertise at a networking event organised by the borough council.

Eighteen local enterprises took part in the latest Business Voice meeting hosted at the council's offices at Kilworthy Park in Tavistock on Thursday, May 23.

They were able to exchange expertise or items in a business 'swap shop'.

The list of 'haves' included spare office furniture and the list of 'wants' included temporary storage space.

Cllr Robert Oxborough, the council's chairman of community services, hosted the event.

He said: 'The swap shop was a great success and most of the businesses got at least one match.

'In these tough times when there isn't much money to spend this sharing of resources, skills and knowledge can make a big difference.

'I would urge more local businesses to get involved with our Business Voice programme."

Stewart Horne from the business support organisation BIP was also at the event to give a talk on alternative funding and advice.

Through its partnership with the Borough Council, BIP offers West Devon businesses a 30 minute free consultation, business templates, information on loans and grants and start up support.

Tanya Morel from a local film production company, Oddbodies, also gave a presentation about crowd funding where lots of individuals invest small amounts of money collectively in projects.

All businesses in the borough are welcome to join Business Voice.
