DJM Rodney under 16 league cup final

Laira 1

Tavistock Thistles 0

THERE was nothing to choose between either of these teams who matched one another throughout the entirety of the match.

Both sides competed well and worked hard giving it their all while producing some good football that all combined made for an entertaining and gripping match.

Each keeper was called upon to make a couple of important stops in each of the halves with Thistles' Bradley Agar producing an outstanding save midway through the opening 45 minutes.

The match was heading towards extra time when, with just four minutes left of normal time, a Laira corner was headed home for the all important goal.

A frantic finale followed as Thistles threw everything at Laira but an equaliser was not to be.

The Thistles squad that performed so valiantly were Agar, Erickson, Johnson, Lowe, Price, Goswell, Ogden, Allen, Farrar, Tremblett, Phillips, Drummond, Taylor and Gill.

The cup final victory saw Laira complete a league and cup double. In a very tight four way battle.

With a handful of games left Thistles were very much in with a shout of the title but one point in two matches proved fatal and although they went on to win their last three matches, Thistles finished fourth in the table, just 4 points behind Laira.

Thistles final league record reads played 16, won 10, drawn 4, lost 2, points 33, goals scored 43 and goals conceded 23.
