AS mayor of Tavistock and on behalf of the people of Tavistock, I wish to pay high tribute to the Lions Club of Tavistock after last week?s 2004 Carnival.

The hard working Lions, after much preparation, gave Tavistock a marvellous week for all age groups of fun and activities.

The culmination on Saturday of Carnival Day, blessed with glorious sunshine, was wonderful. The rich variety of the floats and the procession involved hundreds of people, including our own Stannary Band.

Congratulations to all the Lions for the hospitality and generosity to local charities.

Also congratulations to Janet Nowell, the first lady president of Tavistock Lions Club. You lead an immensely hard-working and altruistic organisation.

Tavistock would be much poorer and duller without the Lions.

Jenny Metcalf

Town Mayor

I WOULD like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you on behalf of the Lions Club to all those who made this year?s carnival so successful.

A special thank you to all those who took part in the fantastic procession on Saturday which would not have been possible with out the co-operation of Langdon Transport, Dave Pethick HTS Ltd, R P and S Heyward, Colin Maxwell, Mike Bradley, S J Backwell and John Collacott.

Lastly but not least to all the public that filled our buckets to make this year?s street collection the biggest ever!

Many thanks.

Lion President

I?D like to say to Tavistock how much I enjoyed the Carnival.

I was at the beginning when all the floats were lined up to be judged. What a lovely show of effort on everyone?s part, but I was a little disappointed in the choice of winning float.

When I looked at Princetown Primary and Preschools float, everything was done by hand and there were thirty-two little children on it and each one had made a leaf or a flower for their garden.

I do think the making of the float should be considered a bit more when judging, but I?d like to say to everyone, it was a lovely show. Congratulations everyone.
