IN division one of the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League, leaders Tavistock A beat Anchorage A 9-1.

Tavistock A's Fred Phillips, Peter Hicks and Roger Bowkett were in fine form but Martin Fowler prevented a whitewash by beating Roger Bowkett in five sets. Tavistock A also won the doubles. Tavistock A scores were Fred Phillips (3), Peter Hicks (3), Roger Bowkett (2). Anchorage A scores were Martin Fowler (1), Ottilia Pochat (0), Bob Vella (0).

The Young Ones closed the gap on Tavistock A to four points by winning away at Academy A 0-10 and securing the bonus point.

After suffering their first loss of the season away to Okehampton A and losing top spot to Tavistock A, The Young Ones were clinical in their performance. Only Ben Hill managed to get games off Edward Haskell and Andy Moppett. Academy A scores were Tom Pengelly (0), Tom Pearce (0), Ben Hill (0).

The Young Ones scores were George Haskell (3), Edward Haskell (3), Andy Moppett (3). Edward and George Haskell also beat Tom Pengelly and Tom Pearce in the doubles.

The mid table clash between The J Team and Bridestowe saw Bridestowe come out on top with a win in the final doubles. Mark Tancock and Phil Down got Bridestowe off to a flying start with wins over Nick Jackson and Steve Tyler.

Sarah Jackson stopped the rot with a controlled three sets win over Francis Griffiths. Bridestowe kept their noses in front although Nick had to work hard to beat Francis in the fifth. With Bridestowe 4-5 up, Mark Tancock and Phil Down came through to take the doubles against Steve and Sarah to secure the 4-6 win.

The J Team scores were Nick Jackson (2), Steve Tyler (1), Sarah Jackson (1). Bridestowe scores were Mark Tancock (3), Phil Down (2), Francis Griffiths (0).

In division two, Moretonhampstead took on Okehampton B. In a close opening game, Okehampton B's Janice Seabrook maintained her 100% unbeaten record by holding off a strong comeback from Moreton's Ken Underhill to win. The second game between Peter Denman and Oke B's Dick Randell was just as tight with Dick scraping home three sets to two.

Following Brian Skilton's win over June Randell, Moreton-hampstead kept their noses in front and the doubles win for Peter Denman and Brian Skilton over Dick and June Randell secured a 6-4 win for the home side. Moretonhampstead scores were Ken Underhill (2), Peter Denman (1), Brian Skilton (2). Okehampton B scores were Janice Seabrook (3), Dick Randell (1), June Randell (0).
