A COUPLE have raised £1,078 for Exeter Leukaemia Fund this year by selling plants, produce and flowers on their garden wall at Brightley Mill.

Nick and Mandy Harrison have been doing this for more than five years and have many loyal customers who return frequently during the summer months to see what is new on the 'wall'.

In this time they have raised over £4,500 for the ELF charity.

Mandy says: 'We always grew too many plants and they tended to be thrown onto the compost heap until one day someone asked if we had any spare plants and suddenly "The Wall" was born.

'We supplemented the plants with excess vegetables and fruit and soon we had customers coming from far and wide. After a couple of years we began to sell bunches of country flowers picked from our garden – this was successful right from the start and we had to make some new flower beds specially for growing cut flowers.

'We have probably sold over 500 bunches this year alone. It is hard work but we enjoy all of it and meet some lovely people.'

The couple expressed thanks to all their generous customers and those kind local people who donate plants and produce – with pumpkins being a speciality!

'If anyone has  surplus plants or they are splitting up any perennials we would be very happy to take these and grow them on to sell next year – every penny we raise is passed on to this very worthwhile charity' Mandy added.

'The Wall' is closed now for 2010 and will re-open next year during April.
