The most popular event in Bridestowe's community calendar is a sweet 16 years old.
The annual Ram Roast. which takes place on the village sporting green, is an afternoon of fun in the sun for visitors from all over West Devon.
The village was badly hit in the foot and mouth crisis — but all the stops have been pulled out to ensure the Ram Roast takes place and show the community spirit is well and truly buzzing.
The fun starts at 2pm and includes live music from Sam Cooper and Graham Cocker and Jeff and Cheryl.
More entertainment will be provided by the Sticklepath-based Cogs and Wheels Dancers.
There is a host of activities from the novel to the traditional — a coconut shy, duck races, a bucking bronco, archery. darts and children's sports are just a few.
Youngsters will also be fascinated by a children's entertainer while parents can relax with a cream tea or a pint of beer.
Many stalls will offer prizes or skillfully made goods. This year's charity table is in aid of the New Okehampton Hospital Appeal.
But the centre-piece of the afternoon is the ram, carefully roasted over a glowing fire in one corner of the field.
There had been doubt as to whether a ram could be found this year as the person who normally donates it, farmer David Heard, sadly lost his livestock because of the foot and mouth crisis.
However, a plea in the Okehampton Times paid dividends and many others offered a ram to maintain the community event.
Farmer Ivor Pellow generously donated a ram and Smales of Hatherleigh are slaughtering it free of charge.
The Ram Roast is the major event in the fund-raising calendar for the project to build Bridestowe's new village hall.
Organisers are hoping they will succeed in obtaining Lottery funding for the project — the new hall, for which designs have already been draw up — will be built on the site of the existing ageing premises adjacent to the sporting green.
