ON behalf of Operation Sunshine I would like to thank all the people of Tavistock and the surrounding area who responded so incredibly generously to our appeal for rice and other basic foodstuffs for our loading to Zimbabwe four weeks ago.

We are especially grateful to the Lions who organised the appeal and thank Morrison's and Somerfield for helping in this endeavour.

We were very moved by the number of cars and vans arriving at the farm filled with rice and other goods and we know how much the people of Zimbabwe will welcome all that has been sent to them. Another 60ft container is planned for early May.

May we also take this opportunity of asking all those who took away a Smartie tube at our coffee morning before Christmas to return them now either to Wilkins Shoe Shop or to the parish centre at our quiz evening at 7pm on Saturday March 14.
