THE Crediton and District Committee of Macmillan Cancer Support held a collection in Okehampton on Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4.

In spite of the rain and the bad weather, we were delighted to receive a total of £481.57.  This money was raised in two five-hour periods.

The committee would have liked to collect for longer but there is a shortage of volunteer collectors.

There were two moments that stand out; a carload of young men drew up and they called the collector over and all emptied their pockets of their loose change. Another person actually purchased a cup of hot chocolate for one of the collectors.

The committee would like to thank all those who contributed to the collections for their support and kindness. The money raised will assist the charity in its work providing help and support to sufferers from cancer and their families.
