HUNDREDS of emergency services staff took part in a major mock search-and-rescue exercise on Dartmoor last weekend.

Police, the army, fire crews, Dartmoor Rescue group and other regional mountain rescue organisations were all involved in the event, which was co-ordinated from Okehampton Camp.

A team of cadets took the role of 'casualties' during the exercise, which was aimed at testing each agency's expertise during operations.

Colin Rockey of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, said the exercise was 'a good opportunity' to work in a 'realistic and testing environment'.

'When large-scale emergencies occur, it's important to ensure we all use the correct resources in an effective and efficient way,' said Mr Rockey.
