MORE than 30 members of St Eustachius’ Parish Church Choir, guest singers and members of the congregation travelled to Wells in Somerset to sing the evensong at Wells Cathedral on Saturday, March 24.
Dr Peter King, Organist Emeritus, Bath Abbey, accompanied the choir. The programme included Richard Ayleward’s Responses, the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in G by Herbert Sumsion and the anthem, Lord Let Me Know Thine End by Maurice Greene.
The choir was delighted to be accompanied by the vicar, the Very Rev Dr Chris Hardwick and his wife, Sarah.
After a brief tour of the cathedral surrounds, they enjoyed a meal together at a local restaurant. Then, led by their acting director of music, Fr Steven Martin, they rehearsed in the cathedral school and, following tea, in the cathedral choir stalls, before leading the service.
Fr Steven said: ‘It was an excellent day for all involved and the choir sang superbly; they have been invited back to sing at Wells in the future.’
The choir is now working hard to prepare for their concert at St Eustachius’ on Saturday May, 19, 7.30pm, which marks the 700th Anniversary of the church’s dedication and consecration. The programme will also include music to celebrate the Royal wedding.
