South West Peninsula Premier League Clyst Rovers 0 Tavistock AFC 3 THIS was not a pretty match, on a hard bumpy pitch in sweltering conditions. It was nevertheless infused with a moment of brilliance by Tavistock?s Glynn Hobbs as the Lambs came away with three points on their first road trip. Tavistock started slowly and a little nervy against a hardworking but limited Clyst Rovers, in this inaugural fixture of the league. Struggling to cope with the 3-5-2 system of the home side and their route one tactic, Tavistock failed to get to grips with the game early on. It was 20 minutes into the game before Glyn Hobbs sprang the offside trap, only to spurn the opportunity and put his effort wide. Minutes later Mark Conday was equally culpable in front of goal for the visitors. However, Tavistock were getting a foothold in the game and while goalkeeper Andy Meeds was forced to save smartly, the home team appeared toothless. The breakthrough came just before the interval when Hobbs broke free of his marker and finished clinically. Seconds later Neil Kinsman cut in from the left and forced a good save from the home keeper. The game continued in the same vein after the break and while Tavistock were rarely troubled, a one goal advantage is never enough. On the hour Tavistock made two changes replacing Lee Coxon and Neil Kinsman for Shane Krac and Ryan Honey. These were like for like changes, keeping the same shape. Essentially, the game was over minutes later as Glyn Hobbs picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and with seemingly little danger, rifled the ball into the top corner with the home keeper looking on in admiration. That Glyn Hobbs is a match winner there is no doubt and he is arguably the most destructive forward in local football at the moment. From here on the game drifted to its inevitable conclusion. Dan Jefferies made way for Chris Short at the back and with the clock running down, Ryan Honey picked up on a mistake by the keeper and laid on a simple tap in for Mark Conday to round off a very satisfactory 3-0 win. Tavistock sit on top of the league and while there might be a long way to go, don?t be surprised if they are in the championship shake up next May.
