TOP golfers from Tavistock Golf Club are packing their woods and irons this month and jetting off to Tavistock Country Club in New Jersey USA. The two clubs have been exchanging visits now over a number years and have established quite close links. Tavistock Country Club New Jersey was established in 1921 on what had been farmland owned by settlers from around 1741 in Haddonfield, New Jersey ? some of whom had travelled from Tavistock in Devon. While these old family links to Tavistock Devon are still under research, new links are being forged through the respective golf clubs. Although Tavistock NJ is only a small community in the borough of Haddonfield it boasts an impressive golf course and associated family sports facility. The 2007 tour party from Tavistock, Devon, includes four past captains, the present treasurer and leading golfers in the club. Tour organiser Tony Ingram, who has been involved in many of the previous tours, said: ?The 2007 tour party has a nice balance of young and older members and whilst the trip is largely a social visit we hope to do well in the challenge match and retain the Hutchinson Trophy.?
