TEN ZERO ONE, a talented young band from Tavistock, will be stealing the spotlight at Looe Music Festival on Sunday when they perform on the main stage for the sixth consecutive year.
Young, fresh-faced and full of enthusiasm, the band say they feel honoured to be booked again this year for the major Cornish music festival. Ten Zero One will kick off an exciting session of live music at 11am at Looe Music Festival this Sunday (September 25).
The band is made up of local musicians Max Williams, 18, Gary Lawrence-James, 18, Jack Rawlings, 18, and Darryl Syms, 22. The lads are overjoyed to be heading back to the main stage and expressed thanks to festival organisers for giving them the opportunity to support popular headline act Fun Lovin’ Criminals.
Competition to get a performance slot at the festival is fierce, with thousands of bands up and down the country trying to grab a spot. The band said they feel lucky as they are one of only eight acts who will get the opportunity to play on the main stage on Sunday.
The band has played at Looe Music Festival every year since it started in 2011 and has already gigged at a whole host of festivals this summer, including Lapstock Festival, South Cider Festival in Dorset, Kingston Fun Day, and The Gig In The Garden at St Kew.
The group, who write and play original material, first formed when Max, Jack and Gary met at an after school music club at Tavistock College. At the time the lads were in Year 7 and have since gone on to achieve great success.
In 2012 the guys showcased their skills at the O2 Arena in London after earning their place in the grand final of Live and Unsigned — a major national music competition which received over 10,000 entrants. The band also reached the School Jam UK final in 2012 and again in 2013.
As an exciting young band, the lads seem to make an impression wherever they perform. Most recently, they wowed audiences at the British Firework Championships this summer when they performed to a crowd of 10,000 people on Plymouth Hoe.
Band vocalist and bass player Max said: ‘Playing on Plymouth Hoe was an amazing experience for us all, and probably the biggest adrenaline rush I’ve had on stage so far. The crowd were awesome and really responsive, they were all just up for having fun’
‘We are so happy and excited to be performing at the Looe Music Festival this year and feel very honoured to be opening the main stage on Sunday!’
‘It’s always such an amazing atmosphere with a great venue and awesome vibe — the boys and I can’t wait. The setting is amazing as well because the stage is right on the beach.
‘This year we will be performing all original songs, occasionally we do covers but the majority of music we perform is our own material. We feel pretty prepped this year, however, we definitely want to get in a few more rehearsals before the gig next weekend.’
The band possess a serious passion for music and describe their sound as a melodic rock with slight embedded elements of pop. The lads quench their thirst for music in their spare time as Gary works at Yennadon Quarry, Jack is a full-time fabricator and Max studies a DJ music production course at Deep Blue Sound College.
Ten Zero One recently welcomed new guitarist Darryl Syms, 22, from Plymouth. Darryl, who teaches guitar lessons, will join the rest of the group when they perform at Looe Music Festival.
