FOLLOWING on from the success of the last two years, the Lions Club of Tavistock is hosting another hot air balloon glow later this month.

In conjunction with Gloucestershire-based Exclusive Ballooning, the glow, being held at Tavistock College on September 24, will take place at dusk and last around 20 minutes.

It will be set to music and will feature a number of tethered balloons with the pilots lighting up their burners giving the impression of huge light bulbs being switched on and off.

The glow was said to have always been a popular part of the Westcountry Balloon Fiesta, organised by the Lions Club and Paul Blowey, president, said that members were delighted that the balloonists and their crews had agreed to return to the town once again giving their time freely.

Exclusive’s Andrew Holly said: ‘Tavistock has long held great memories for our pilots and clients and we are delighted to come down again and help raise money for local charities and causes especially after the huge success of the last two years which we have all thoroughly enjoyed.’

Around 1,500 people attended the spectacle last year and the club is hoping for the same, if not a greater response, this year. The club will be running its barbecue and there will be bouncy castles for the children to enjoy while waiting for the glow to start.

Limited parking will be available at the college and primary school so local residents are asked to walk if possible to avoid any traffic congestion and full car parks.

The Lions also advise that no dogs are allowed at the event. Like any hot air balloon event, it will be weather dependent. Those intending to attend are advised to check the club’s website www.tavistocklions. org.uk for the latest information, or call 07802 600282.
