THE Devon County Smallbore Rifle Association Open and South West Championships were held over the weekend at Okehampton Smallbore Club. Each shooter entering the meeting had the chance to shoot two complete courses of fire of 60 shots each, whether they were air rifle or air pistol shooters, so there were two separate competitions and an aggregate of the two combined.
In the Air Rifle classes, Chris Tucker — an out-of-county shooter from Springhead Rifle Club — won all competitions in Class A. In Class B, Craig Attwood of Braunton Rifle Club shot in just Competition One, which he won handsomely and also took the juniors and so became the Devon Junior Air Rifle Champion. His sister Kirstie, shooting in Class A, became Devon Champion.
In the Air Pistol classes there was a much higher entry than in the Air Rifle event, and Georgina Geikie from Okehampton easily won Competition One and became the Devon Air Pistol Champion; in second place to her in that competition, but also winning Competition Two and the Aggregate, was Adrian Bunclark from Budleigh TSC, who became the South West Air Pistol champion by 18 points from Fonthill's Nigel Dudley. Okehampton took the team event by 26 points from Fonthill.
