TOURISM businesses and woodland producers in the Tamar Valley are set to benefit from a £149,000 grant awarded by the Development Fund for Rural Renewal.
The grant has been awarded to a partnership headed by Tamar Valley Service.
Tamar Valley Tourism Association and Tamar Woodmeet are the main focus of the bid to market the Tamar Valley, offer business advice and training and improve local supply chains.
Colin Foxhall, of Sydenham Damerel, founder member of Woodmeet, said they were very excited about the opportunities the money would give them to improve their marketing skills.
TAVATA chairman, Margaret Blake of Latchley, said: 'We are delighted to have this grant, which will enable us to employ staff with specific marketing skills to put the Tamar Valley on the map.
'We are planning to have a big festival to celebrate crafts, foods and tourism attractions and a big wood fair with demonstrations of all the skills and crafts.'
The project is based in the Calstock Development Trust office and administrator Bob Barrett said the project had 'several opportunities for businesses in tourism and wood products'.
'They can access free business advice and training, promote their goods and services through a local trading directory and get financial help for marketing in small groups with a common theme,' he said.
