A GARDEN of exotic treasures is all set to be discussed at the next meeting of the South Tawton Garden Club. On Thursday February 28, Vaughan Gallavan, head gardener at one of Devon's 'most beautiful gardens', will give an illustrated talk on Sherwood Garden to members of the club . A spokesman for the garden club said: 'The garden is that of Sir John and Lady Quicke and is noted for its fine national collections of Magnolias and Azaleas. As well as these, there are many unusual trees, shrubs and woodland plants. 'Maintaining Sherwood and propagating its plants has given Vaughan Gallavan a wealth of knowledge and experience. This has been further increased by plant hunting trips to Assam and the Eastern Himalayas. 'From these expeditions he has raised seed of some very rare or previously unknown plants and these have found a place in the garden. With such diversity of plants there is colour and interest at all seasons.' The meeting is in Belstone Village Hall at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
