TOM and Barbara Brown's performance of traditional songs with archive film, 'This Farming Life', has been quietly taking Devon by storm over the last year with performances for Villages in Action. They will be appearing again soon at Bere Ferrers Village Hall on Saturday March 17, at 7.30pm. Their humorous, entertaining performance has proved very popular with Villages in Action audiences recently. Tom and Barbara use familiar, and not so familiar, traditional songs to illustrate archive film footage from the South West. Their rich voices harmonise wonderfully and are blended seamlessly with anecdotes and stories and there is plenty of opportunity for people to join in, as they have done with gusto at every village to date! The show has very wide appeal and is not just for farming folk — it is a fascinating look at traditions, some of which still survive in Devon's rural communities. Some film footage is from the 1920s and some of the songs are modern such as 'Bampton Fair', composed by Paul Wilson of Okehampton based Wren Music. Superb vocals from Tom and Barbara are accompanied by Tom on concertina, guitar, melodeon and mandola to great effect, creating a truly memorable evening. Tickets are available from Anne Turner 01822 841464 Adult £5.50 Child £4.50.
